Brainstorming session held for youth and family ministries

by Pastor Kristine and Sarah Schramm

On Sunday, February 2, a well-attended meeting of parents, vestry members, and other parishioners, including two youth group members, participated in a brainstorming session to begin re-shaping the youth and family ministries. There are a lot of great ideas brewing for how to form disciples of all ages. It is wonderful to see so much energy and commitment.

In the short term (through May), parishioner Eugene Loh will join Melissa Rubio, our Toddler Room teacher, to provide educational activities for kids ages 5-9 who prefer not to sit in worship. Parents, if you’d like your kids to join you for communion, Eugene will bring them into the church at the appropriate time – just let him know when you drop them off.

The youth from middle school through high school are formulating a plan to begin meeting more regularly with a monthly activity. Most Sundays youth will plan to meet in the youth room on the second floor of Clay Hall after communion.

There is an ongoing committee forming to provide community, spiritual growth, and service opportunities for St. Mary’s Parishioners of all ages. Pastor Kristine and those who met are working to offer a more intentional education plan in multi-generational settings as well as by ages to meet the needs of our Parish. Look for more information and resources to come.

Thanks to all who participated in the meeting, and especially to Eugene for this wonderful offering of time and care.
