Team from St. Mary's by-the-sea visiting Our Little Roses school in Honduras, Summer, 2019

This year’s trip to Our Little Roses in Honduras was new in many ways.  First of all, our group was smaller (8 total) and was comprised of St. Mary’s members and family, plus several teachers from Stevenson School in Carmel.

Instead of completing another painting project (compound walls and inside the chapel have been previous projects), this year we took 17 of the girls (1st grade through high school age) away for a “summer camp.” We hosted traditional American camp activities, including swimming, arts and crafts, skits, s’mores, songs, environmental science, and dance.  The challenge for the girls was that we ran the camp in ENGLISH! They did a great job of trying to speak as much English as possible, and seemed to have a really good time.

After we returned to the OLR home, we took a larger group of girls on a day trip to the beach (2 hour bus ride away) for a marine science program and beach clean up.

We had a great trip and would be happy to talk to anyone with questions.
