Three generations gathered late Sunday afternoon to prepare for Ash Wednesday. The youngest colored alleluias as people gathered. Then palm fronds were burned to create ashes for Ash Wednesday. There was a brief service to bless the ashes and celebrate communion. Finally, the alleluias were “buried” under the altar until Easter.
