Since my arrival, many people have expressed interest in Bible study. I am delighted because studying scripture together not only enriches our individual spiritual lives, but also helps us grow in faith as a community. So let’s get started! I am pleased to announce upcoming opportunities:
First, all are invited to our inaugural “Beach Blanket Bible” session, 3:30 pm Sunday, November 17, at Asilomar State Beach. The idea behind this lay-led series is to study, on our own shore, stories of Jesus on the shore. Bring a chair or blanket. We will gather on the beach (from the lodge, take the boardwalk, cross the street and when you get to the beach we will be on the left by a big log). At this first session, we will be studying Jesus’ calling of the disciples. This will be a periodic series, so watch for future installments!
Second, during Advent, a season of hope and expectation, we will be studying the readings from Isaiah that are appointed in our lectionary. Isaiah’s vision of God’s reign is paramount in these texts, and they will provide a wonderful backdrop and foundation to the work we are doing as a parish, dreaming and enacting our own future as God’s people in Pacific Grove.
- Adults will meet from 11:15 – 12:00 in Edwards Hall.
- Children will meet in the small room next to the kitchen for their own activity. Middle- and high school students will meet in the Youth Room in Clay Hall.
I am eager to dig in to the richness of scripture with you all, and I hope you will join me for Beach Blanket Bible and for our Advent studies. I invite your feedback as we go along so that we can plan future Christian education opportunities for all ages.
