Sunday Mornings in Lent
8 am – Holy Eucharist, Rite I
10 am – Holy Eucharist, Rite II, with music (childcare for ages 1-9 in the Toddler Room, Clay Hall)
11:15 am – Lenten series on elements of the liturgy – Edwards Hall. Worship is the central act of a Christian community. In it, we are nourished in body and spirit, knit together, and strengthened to be the Body of Christ in the world. The better we understand what we are doing in the liturgy, the more power the liturgy has for us. Youth and adults welcome; elementary-aged children will have their own class.
March 1 – The Creeds
March 8 – The Collects
March 15 – The Prayers of the People
March 22 – The Liturgy of the Word
March 29 – The Liturgy of the Table
Wednesday Evenings in Lent
We will gather from 6-7:30 to feed our bodies and spirits. We will begin with a simple supper (soup is provided; bring salad, bread, or non-alcoholic beverages). Going deeper with the previous Sunday’s topics, we will work to write our own creed, collect, prayers, and design a liturgy that we will use to worship on our final night together. All ages are welcome as we create a service that speaks to who we are at this moment in this place and who we understand God to be.
March 4 – Creed
March 11 – Collects
March 18 – Prayers of the People
March 25 – Liturgy of the Word (select readings, collaborate on a homily)
April 1 – Liturgy of the Table (write a Eucharistic prayer)
April 8 – Worship together
Friday Evenings in Lent
Taizé Style Worship (7-8 pm – rehearsal at 5:30 for musicians). We will join with our neighbors at The Christian Church of Pacific Grove (Disciples of Christ) for weekly contemplative services that invite us to feel our faith in our bodies and souls more than in our brains. Simple chants, repeated many times, help us move deeper into the heart of God. Short readings focus our meditations. Silence allows space for our hearts to respond. All are welcome – invite your neighbors.
March 6 – St. Mary’s
March 13 – Christian Church
March 20 – St. Mary’s
March 27 – Christian Church
