On Father’s Day weekend for at least as long as many of us can remember, St. Mary’s has held an annual Parish Camp.  For the past 25 years it has been held down by the banks of the Big Sur River.  This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, meeting together in person was not possible.

Instead, the organizers of Parish Camp, the Bruemmer Family, hosted a Zoom event on 6/20/2020.  Thirty congregants joined at 5:30  –  some had fires going, others were actually outdoors, some had wine and cheese, and we all had smiles.

The Bruemmers put together a slide show of photos from past years and it was wonderful to see everyone together around the camp sharing meals and relaxing.  It was especially sweet so see parishioners who are no longer with us.  We had a s’mores lesson provided by Alice Bruemmer, and Dick Guthrie reprised his role as official Parish Camp storyteller and read us a book about dads for Father’s Day.  Many people submitted art of all kinds that made up a second slideshow.  Every piece was special and in sharing these pieces we got to learn more about each artist.

Thank you Bruemmers and for all who were able to attend.  Be sure to mark your calendar for Father’s Day weekend 2021!
