Join father/son duo John and Tyler Weed with Stuart Mason on October 22 for an evening of Celtic and old-time mountain music, and American song. This concert will trace the music of the Emerald Isles and follow it to one of many landing spots in the United States, then follow the timeless tradition from the older to the younger generation. Watch the folk process unfold as John Weed and “Uncle” Stuart Mason, two members of West Coast Celtic powerhouse Molly’s Revenge and Nordic band New World String Project, pass this musical lineage to next-gen banjo, mandolin, and fiddle wizard Tyler Weed.
The concert will unfold with a 20-minute debut from members of the Santa Cruz Teen All Star Celtic Band. Each summer, Community Music School Santa Cruz holds Redwood Teen Celtic Camp at Monte Toyon Retreat in Aptos, CA, where youth from all over the west coast focus on learning Celtic music on fiddles, harp, whistles, flute, guitar and piano. The future of Celtic music is in good hands: John Weed has assembled this fantastic group of all-star youngsters, who meet and rehearse twice a month at Louden Nelsen Center in downtown Santa Cruz.
