CSC Backpack Drive

by Coby Palmer

Today marks the start of CSC’s 2nd Annual, Back to School Backpack Drive. Last year we were able to raise more than $2,000 to purchase backpacks and much needed school supplies for 60 students and this year we want to do even more.

Monterey County is home to the highest percentage of homeless students in California, according to a news report. In this area of great beauty and great wealth, there is also great need.

History has shown us that the best way out of poverty is through education, but our area children are struggling to achieve this dream. It’s hard to study when you don’t have basic materials.

Our goal is to raise more than $2,000 for backpacks and school supplies so we can serve all our pantry clients again this year, while still donating to San Pablo and Pacific Grove Unified. If we get more than we’re asking for, we will partner with local schools to donate supplies to students in need.

You can help by purchasing a backpack and/or the school supplies listed below or by making a financial contribution to CSC with the note: backpacks. Or click here to donate online.

Students return to school in early August, so we are taking the next four weeks to ask for your support. A list of needed supplies can be found on our website. This backpack drive will run through July 18 and donations can be dropped off during CSC hours MWF 1-2pm, in the church office or they can be brought to church on Sundays.

Thank you and God Bless.
