Party for Paddy on March 17

The Party for Paddy  will be held at St. Mary's in Pacific Grove, St. Patrick's Day, Sunday, March 17th at 3 p.m. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. with pre-concert music!
St. Mary’s loves a good party, and this one is the best, complete with great music, Irish dancing, food and libations!

Once again, The Weeds and Stuart Mason will be delighting us with their saucy rhythms and sweet Irish riffs.  Marisa Gilman will be joining us with her soaring dance steps. St. Mary’s bistro will be in full swing with our famous “tatties with toppings.”

Concert starts at 3 p.m., but pre-concert music will start early, featuring The McMonarchs (St. Mary’s fantastic teen band) and Banish Misfortune (you will recognize some familiar faces).  Doors open at 2:30 p.m., come early and get a good seat for all the action.  Advance tickets are recommended--this will sell out.  Buy tickets at www.celticsociety.org. $30 in advance, $35 at the door.  For more info, call or text 831-224-3819.

This special St. Patrick's Day celebration concert will trace the migration of traditional music from the Emerald Isle to the New World, and emphasize the passing of musical traditions from the older to the younger generation.  Join father-son duo John and Tyler Weed with Stuart Mason (AKA The Weeds) for an evening of Celtic music and American song to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and the Irish-American musical connection. Watch the folk process unfold as John Weed and “Uncle” Stu Mason pass their musical lineage to next-generation banjo-mandolin virtuoso Tyler Weed, a fresh voice upcoming on the West Coast scene. The Weeds will be joined for this tour by brilliant Irish dancer Marisa Gilman of Portland, Oregon.

More about the musicians:
John Weed, fiddler for Molly’s Revenge and New World String Project, is a classically-trained violinist who has spent the last 25 years immersed in various fiddle styles. With an affinity for folk traditions, John’s exploration has emphasized Irish, Scottish, Swedish, and old-time fiddle. While he holds a bachelor’s degree of music from CSU Chico, the musical education that charted his path began through a long series of Irish sessions. There, he learned the nuance of aural passing of melodies and the tradition of conversing in a deeply musical manner. John’s passion for the vital expressiveness of the session lead to performing across the United States and internationally.

Tyler Weed was raised in a musical family, hearing his mother and father playing fiddle since birth. Tyler was taught guitar and banjo licks from Uncle Stu since his first days of strumming a guitar. He was recently one of 14 students out of 1650 entrants to receive Maestro Award for improvisational soloing at the 2022 Heritage Jazz Festival in Anaheim, California. Tyler is a six time recipient of Santa Cruz Redwood Camp Teen Band scholarship and has been awarded the Big Sur Fiddle Camp scholarship twice.

Stuart Mason is known for his authentic vocals and nimble skills on guitar, mandolin, and bouzouki. He was a member of the Celtic band Molly’s Revenge, and has performed at festivals in China, Scotland, Ireland, and many of the United States. He currently tours with old time quartet SLO County Stumblers, Nordic quartet New World String Project, and The Weeds. Stuart has won awards for traditional singing (Goleta Old-Time Fiddler’s Convention), mandola (Topanga Banjo and Fiddle Contest), and songwriting (West Coast Songwriter’s Association).
